Eagles (1-0) on to Howard

BC-HowardGW2015

The undefeated Eagles take on the Bison of Howard University Saturday. Kickoff at 10 am PT. Howard, an FCS team, lost its opener 49-0 to Appalachian State. This could be a good stat game for BC.

The Alumni Stadium “crowd” at last Saturday’s opener with Maine was reportedly the lowest opening game attendance since 1996. The combination of a holiday weekend, with beautiful weather in New England, and less-than-marquee opponent may have been the cause.

But San Diego Eagles made an excellent showing at the local game watch. More than two dozen Eagles fans watched BC win over Maine, 24-3.

The Eagles were sluggish for much of the game, breaking it open only in the fourth quarter, as these highlights show.

Go Eagles!

Ouch! One-point loss in bowl game

Despite a possible record number of San Diego Eagles (50+) gathered at the Beer Company cheering them on, the Eagles lost to Penn State 31-30 in the Pinstripe Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 27.

Leading 21-7 as the third quarter was coming to an end, BC scored only three more points in regulation and allowed Penn State to score 17 to force overtime. The Eagles scored a touchdown in overtime, but missed the extra point. (This was BC’s 7th missed PAT of the season, an unusually high number. Freshman Mike Knoll had missed only one PAT previously this year, going 13 of 14 before the final miss.) Penn State then scored a touchdown and extra point to take the win.

BC finished 7-6 for the year, 4-4 in the ACC, records identical to the 2013 season.

Next game watch for Eagles fans is the 2015 Beanpot. Opening round is Monday, February 2, at 5 pm PT, against Northeastern. BC hockey was a below-average 9-7-1 as of the end of the calendar year, but will certainly want to extend their current streak of four Beanpot championships. Go for five, Eagles!

Because it’s what we do, here are highlights of the bowl game.
