Join a hike

To work off the refreshments enjoyed at our wine country excursion, we visit the Elfin Forest Reserve in Escondido on Saturday, March 19 (1 pm), and take a hike. We’ll go on the “Way Up Trail,” described as a moderate three-mile hike (1.41 miles each way).

After, we’ll go back on the refreshment route and visit Plan 9 Alehouse in Escondido. Again, more info on the Chapter Events page.

A dozen chapter members, family, and friends gathered at the Leoness Cellars winery in Temecula on February 26. Some, you may notice, were underage.

#1 in lacrosse
Kudos to the #1-ranked BC lacrosse team, which has opened its season with six straight wins. Many of their games will appear on the ACC Network. We anticipate at least a couple of gamewatches to view the defending national champions try for two in a row.

Day @ the Races 2021

The annual gathering of BC Eagles at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (not held in 2020) took place Sunday, November 21. More than two dozen alumni, friends, and family members watched the ponies run from seats at tables high above the track in the Turf Club.

Here’s the official photo of the setting and view.

Participants could also enjoy the Turf Club lounge (official photo below) and place their bets in those comfortable surroundings. You can see the location of the photo at the top of this post at left, rear.

The San Diego Chapter usually aims at the fall season, called the “Bing Crosby Season” after one of the track’s founders. It’s also referred to as the “BC Season,” so there is something of a natural connection.

Look for information about another “Day at the Races” next fall!

Day at the Races

From left: James Fox ’15, Jonathan Vaughn ’15, Mary-Lou Kiley MSW’77, Zeynep Baraket ’99 (seated), Michael Scott, Bryan Boulton, Kristina Hudner Beitman NC’74, Mary Ann Scott ’75, Patrick Wade, Rebecca Doyle Wade ’89, Hartford Beitman, and Bill McDonald ’68.

More than a dozen local Eagles, family members, and friends enjoyed a “day at the races” yesterday at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.

Viewing the races from tables at the Turf Club, they enjoyed food, drink, the look and ambience of where “the turf meets the surf,” and, occasionally, modest winnings.

Happy to welcome several alumni from the Los Angeles area!
