Miami defeated BC today, 9-4, in the deciding game of their NCAA tournament “super regional” series. Miami goes to the College World Series and the Eagles head home.
The Hurricanes jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 4th inning, but it was a close 5-3 margin for Miami heading into the 8th inning. Miami’s Edgar Michelangeli, who was 3-for-3 in the game, hit his second homerun of the game, this time with the bases loaded. The grand slam broke the lead out to 9-3.
Michelangeli showboated around the bases following his grand slam, drawing the ire of BC players. Indeed, there was a confrontation, with typical baseball pushing and shoving, between the teams near the Miami dugout.
While the Eagles have come back in several games late, BC added only one run, in the 8th inning, but also stranded three aboard in that inning.
The Eagles finish one of their most successful performances, at least in NCAA tournament play. Their final record is 35-22.
